The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) Centre for Jazz will host a workshop on music production and licensing in Durban, South Africa, on 11 September, in partnership with Downtown Music Publishing Africa. The event targets music professionals and creators, including students, producers, composers, and songwriters. It will cover practical topics such as music publishing basics, agreement types, production music, licensing opportunities, and rate card structures. The workshop is free to attend.
Thando Makhunga, managing director of Downtown Music Publishing Africa, emphasized that the initiative aims to empower artists by providing a better understanding of the music industry’s business side. The workshop will also serve as a networking opportunity, connecting KwaZulu-Natal creatives to sync licensing prospects, an important area for sustainable careers in music. The session will run from 11 am to 1 pm on 11 September.
