GO! Durban Academy will host the UCI Pump Track World Championships Finals on 9 November. The event, set to be the prestigious 2024 Velosolutions UCI Pump Track World Championships Finals, is the first-ever to take place in a township. The competition will bring together the world’s top riders from around 20 countries to vie for the World Championship Title. Tickets will be available at the gate for R50 per person.
Nelisiwe Zama, Acting Head of eThekwini Transport Authority, highlighted that hosting such a significant event at the GO! Durban Academy showcases the high-quality infrastructure and world-class Velosolutions asphalt pump track in KwaMashu. The event is not only a boost for the cycling sport but also has a positive impact on local tourism, with international riders, their teams, and fans coming to Durban and putting the city on the global tourism map. Moreover, the event will benefit township youth through community-based cycling races leading up to the finals.
The top four participants in the men and women elite categories from these races will qualify for the UCI Pump Track World Championships, with the winners receiving free hotel accommodation. The second, third, and fourth-placed riders will also get invitations to various event activities and transportation services throughout their stay.
