
Mr Mfanelo Ndlela, founder and director of ElectriCoal, an innovative company funded by MKRI, received the Green Entrepreneur Award at the 9th Annual Green Youth Indaba 2024. The event, taking place at the Durban Exhibition Center on 13 and 14 June 2024, is themed “Nurturing Entrepreneurs, Building Skills, Attracting Global Green Investment to Create Jobs”.
The institute was established in 2007 by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and was formerly known as the South African Institute of National Liberation Technology, Philosophy and Political Science (SANLITPS). It was formally established as Moses Kotane Institute in 2009 as a not-for-profit company registered under the Companies Act 2008 and commenced operations in 2010. Since then, it has grown into the research institution it is today. Government of KwaZulu-Natal.
Mfanelo Ndlela is a young entrepreneur with a background in innovation in the energy sector. He was admitted to N.E.S.S at the top of his class with an overall average of 84.2% and thereafter studied Accounting and Business Management.
He is an inventor and entrepreneur and is currently a KZN ‘Local Economic Development Champion’ awarded by the University of KwaZulu Natal’s Graduate School of Business and Leadership. In 2015, he was featured in Entrepreneur Magazine, the world’s best-selling entrepreneurship magazine.
In August 2016, he joined Smart Grid Networks (PTY) LTD as a Project Manager and Renewable Energy Consultant. He has been working with the Smartgrid team on project delivery for the past six years.
